The next big trade-show on the schedule is IBC2024 at the RAI in Amsterdam. It begins on September 13 and runs through September 16. The focus of this tradeshow is broadcasting and cinema for the most part. We attended it last year, and it was probably our favourite show since the glory days of Photokina in Cologne. Conference centers are all the same, but you’re in the middle of Amsterdam, which is much better than the top of the strip in Las Vegas!

We miss you Photokina.

Canon has had a scattered history of hardware announcements for IBC, but we do expect at least a couple of announcements from the company. Last year Canon announced their set of RF mount cinema prime lenses along with the CR-N100 4K PTZ camera.

The Canon Cinema EOS C400 begins shipping in September, so that will likely have a staring roll at their booth, but there are also a bunch of video type products for the RF mount that could possibly be announced for IBC. It would be odd to see another Cinema EOS camera announced prior to the show with the Cinema EOS C400 just hitting the market.

Preorder: Canon Cinema EOS C400

The Canon EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II will both obviously be featured as well. Hopefully there will be some hands-on opportunities with the EOS R1 and it’s not just locked behind glass.

Possible Announcements

  • Canon RF 24mm f/1.4L VCM
  • Canon RF 50mm f/1.4L VCM
  • Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Z
  • New Cinema Lens

We have no confirmed announcement dates for these three lenses, but both of the prime lenses have been rumored for announcement sometime in September.

As is normal with Canon these days, there will be a big push on VR with their pretty impressive experience center. They did announce two new APS-C VR/Spatial lenses in the Canon RF-S 3.9mm f/3.5 STM Dual Fisheye and the Canon RF-S 7.8mm F4 STM dual lens for spatial video.

This is also the time of year Canon sometimes announces future firmware updates for existing products, so that’s always a possibility. Firmware updates rarely leak beforehand to us, so we’re just saying that a possibility.

So C70ii will be announced in October and release in December? ;)
    Or in anticipation of FX3ii.
