The rumors look to be true, Fuji will introduced a fixed lens rangefinder style GFX camera with a 100MP “medium format” sensor in the first quarter of 2025. The camera will reportedly sport a 35mm f/4 lens (28mm f/3.2 DOF equivalent). There will be no IBIS in the camera, but that probably won’t matter much to the people that will be interested in such a camera.

The camera will apparently be “about the size” of the Fujifilm X-Pro 3, so that is quite compact for a medium format camera indeed.

If Fuji can get this camera priced in and around the Leica Q3, it could definitely be an interesting proposition in the fixed lens segment. The current GFX 100S II retails for $4999 without a lens, so it’s entirely possible. What say you Socanikon?

The GFX100RF is scheduled for either a March 2025 announcement or ship date, as that is up in the air at this time. It’d be nice to see it announced ahead of CP+ in February 2025.

Fujifilm GFX100RF Rumored Specifications

  • 100MP Sensor
  • No IBIS
  • GF35mmF4 Lens
  • Coming in March 2025

Fujirumors.com will likely have all the coverage that you’ll need on the camera, and it could turn out to be one of the more interesting releases of 2025.

  1. Interesting move.
I don't like the lens and Fujifilm's color science. I'd rather buy a Leica Q3, with 60MPX along with its well renowned 28mm f/1.7 than a 100MPX with a slow lens attached.

I don't like the standard profiles (Provia, Astia and Velvia) but Nostalgic Neg, Classic Neg and the latest Reala look pretty nice I must say.

All dials on the camera will be dedicated to selecting the film simulations, you won't be allowed to set your own exposure!
  4. Given the success of Fuji\'s X100 series (relative to their market share I guess), it makes sense for them to try such experiment.
And people who dismiss it should give a try to MF first (although this is a \"small MF\" or \"crop MF\" offering like all Fuji G line)
  5. Who will pay 5000€ for something pretending to be a Leica Q which is not a Leica and pretending to be Fuji-Mediumformat without the good stuff of the GFX-Series?

Who would pay 1000€ for a 5 year old 300€ point & shoot? Lots of people. Fuji will sell a lot of these if it's done well.
  6. What are the advantages of Medium Format with a fixed lens compared to Full Frame with an equivalent lens?
For this fake MF: bragging rights ;)
For proper 6x6 MF you’d get all the larger sensor advantages, combined with the improvements you get by paying a lot more attention to your work.

You never compared a file out of medium format camera to one a full frame camera to say that.

Real 6x6 medium format or the 'mini-MF' Fuji and Hasselblad are using in their MILCs?
  9. I'm imagining when a future owner will meet a person with R1+RF600+T2 in Central Park. Both think the other person is crazy! I'll snap a photo of them with my M6-2+Efm22 and keep running.
  10. What are the advantages of Medium Format with a fixed lens compared to Full Frame with an equivalent lens?
Compared to a 28mm f/3.2 FF camera, it’ll be resolution and dynamic range / noise performance that you gain
