Best birding camera

It's a choice between the R1 and the R5ii for the very, very best. I am a passionate birder, both for perched birds and in flight. I've gone for the R5ii because the smaller form and the higher Mpx are what I want. Others will argue for the R1. If I was shooting penguins at -40, I would take the R1. But for the rest of the time, it would be the R5ii. (I also use an R7 + RF 100-400 for lightness and am very happy with it, but if money is no object, the R5ii is a class act).
Thank you Alan for the answer.

To be honest, i am very thinking about R5II as well, because it is latest now from Canon beside R1 and cheaper, to me i feel it has what i need without going very expensive but still pricey, it is kind of a camera that i can hold for really long time like i did with previous cameras for long time a decade or so, while R6II is old and R3 is old and R1/Z9/A9 all are so expensive i might not need that much to spend anyway, i might wait R6III or R7II as backups second camera after i decide on first one, but before i go with R5II i asked to see people opinions and suggestions first.

PhotonsToPhotos Results for the EOS R1

At high iso, DR for most of the good cameras is limited just by the noise caused by statistical fluctuations in the number of photons hitting the sensor. - and the camera circuitry isn't causing loss of DR.
Read noise is always there in modern sensors, they haven't managed to get rid of it yet, and probably never will.

Canon EOS R1 Rockets to the #1 Position in Japan

I love my R5ii and I feel it\'s the most balanced bang-for-buck flagship camera that Canon offers. It\'s true that the R1 beats out the R5ii by every metric except for resolution and video options so in that sense, it is the true flagship. But most prosumers and hobbyists probably feel the R5ii is a better fit for them.
Well you must not have used the A1 or A9III. I like Canon a lot but the R5II is not a flagship camera. I will let you find the flaws. I prefer the R3 and the R5II have been sent back to Canon.

Canon EOS R5 Mark II Assumes it’s Rightful Ranking at Map Camera

MAP Camera has released its sales rankings for November, and the Canon EOS R5 Mark II takes the #1 position as it should. MAP camera is a large camera store in Japan, so this is a look into the domestic market, even though we have been told that the R5 Mark II has been difficult

The R5II should not be the #1 ranked camera. It's an improvement over the R5 but not as goods the R3 no matter what people say. I have used them all.

R1 Overheating!

It really seems like Canon is cutting corners with addressing its overheating as long as they provide overheating times in their manual. It also seems like they are releasing spec cameras that don't live up to the performance that the R5 and R3 had. My R3 seems to really perform like a professional camera compared to the R5II when you push each camera to the limit. I was expecting the R1 to solve the overheating issue that the R3 and R5II have but it looks like that's not the case.

Mushrooms And Fungi Of Any Kind

My only mushrooms for now: that f.... (sorry!) rain season is still not here with full power (actually any power - pretty dry and hot!!!).
First one is kind of Leucoagaricus (if someone try to ID this to species level without RNA/DNA analysis - against a type material if some exist (!) I would be very skeptical.
After that an Agrocybe sp.

Butterflies, Moths and Assorted Insects...

The first photo was intended as for the "Mushrooms" (and I will post one in the "Mushrooms" topic!) until I got home and found more than the mushrooms and a fly: Millipede! These are creepy enough for participating in some movies (The Lord of the Rings?)! They are not fast but in the movies they can make even a snail chasing Ferrari (on Nurburgring!!!) so, it should not be a problem :)!
After that a small gem that needs a macro lens and focus stacking and one more Monarch - just to get out of the Land of the Darkness!

Is a non-L RF 70-200 f/2.8 or similar lens on the horizon?

So far, I'm happy with the RF 24-240. Build quality is good, DxO PL handles the corner recovery well at the wide end. The lens will definitely work for my intended use of a one-lens travel kit (ok, TBH I'll bring the 28/2.8 or 24/1.8 as well).

Thank you for your assessment. I have always struggled with a travel lens but it is so much easier with a light smal kit on holiday. Cheers

Canon EOS R1 Field Report from Antarctica: A Wildlife Photographer’s Perspective

The problem with the 'review' was that he basically just recited specs. He didn't explain how the R1 performed better than an R3 or a 1DX3, or how it took shots that those cameras couldn't. None of the subjects looked particularly challenging to focus, but did the R1 grab and hold better? What benefit was there in spending $12,000 to upgrade? None of this was discussed.

It's like a car review that gushes about tactile interfaces and MPG and acceleration times, but never says whether the car handles better than its predecessor.

Yes, the photos are lovely but that margely comes down to the lenses and technique.
Is it supposed to be a review? I don’t think so. It’s just someone’s experiences with the R1.

Weird to bash someone simply saying what their experiences with the body are. Not to your liking? Move on and read something that says what you like.

Don’t rip into some guy just saying what their experiences are! That’s just rude.

Exploring Canon’s 1 Series Digital Legacy

So my problem is, I really don’t want it to go back to auto unless I want it in auto. Like I just want it to stay at the ISO I set it to when I’m in a situation where auto isn’t working
You need to wait for metering to be unlocked, metering timer done, before going out of auto, or as neru said, if you are doing this during taking shots, set the wheel to EC instead.

R1 Reviews

He says there's still some processing applied, just too minor to be flagged.
Some Sony sensors also have it.
The threshold first flagging the cooked raws, as far as I understand, is largely arbitrary/empirical.
Yeah he did post somewhere that it's a judgment call. And R5II seems to be similar to the R1 and Sony cameras in question at least at ISO 100.

Lenses for Antarctica

Thank you for the reply,

I am jealous, you had the opportunity to walk on Antarctica. Since we be on a cruise ship we will not be able to so.
However we will going on excursions to a couple of penguin colony's on the Falkland Islands.

This is my game plan.

I will be bringing
2- Canon R5s
Canon RF 15-35 2.8 L
Canon RF 24-70 2.8 L
Canon RF 70-200 2.8 L
Canon RF 100-500 F4.5-7.1 L

For the excursions, (due to the weight of the lenses and how close we are going to be to the penguins)
I was planning to use the 2 Canon R5's, one with a 15-35 and the other 70-200 or 24-70.

The RF 100-500 I was planning to use from the balcony on the ship.

Any suggestions on this setup are appreciated.

Did you have any problems with lens condensation?
If so how did you deal with it?

Thank you

Jeff
