Canon EOS R1 to have a version of a DGO sensor?

I absolutely disagree. Own an R3 since the launch and constantly shooting some projects with a9 III and a1.
AF on Sony is I’d say on par but in no way better. On par in sports in good light but in bad/low light is does not shine at all.
Pre-capture on A9 III is so poorly executed that it is basically unusable. If you shoot sports you are constantly (like every second) half pressing the shutter button to focus (or bbf) and you end up with hundreds or thousands (120fps) of images within minutes.
And no, you don’t have time to erase sets after each press of AF button.

Maybe sensor is better or video modes (I don’t do video) but as far as stills go, I always pick up R3 for sports or fast paced events before Sony.
Seem your experience is not the widely held opinion. Most that have compared them back to back would argue the A9III has the better AF. That said, I’m very curious how QPAF will stack up. The R1 is a large camera… perhaps not 1DX series large… but nonetheless large. Especially, compared to Sony Alpha bodies. I think the Canon will need to have the performance across the board, to justify the extra bulk.

Only a few more days to go before all is known. Exciting times.

It would be phenomenal if R1 has DGO implementation. To be honest I really was disappointed that C400 didn\'t have DGO sensor and I really don\'t find a reason why a new Cinema camera doesn\'t have but the flagship camera has it. ARRI made theis success with DGO tech throught the transition from Film to Digital. Everything with Canon is always complicated! When you have recipe that works (DGO - C70/C300 iii) then I think that the logical step is to conitnue this way and evolve. I feel Canon is doing always some steps forward and then for no reason they keep their tech behind. Strange things I can say... in a few days we will know for sure if this tech will continue with Canon bodies.... maybe ARRI won\'t let them to use this tech again!

I've spent about 6 weeks with A9iii + A1, then about 6 weeks with Z9 + Z8, after having spent 10+ years on Canon bodies, including 2 years on R3 and R5. I shoot a lot of sport. A9iii is the best AF in my opinion, followed by (in order) Z9, A1, R3 and then waaay back is R5.

R1 sounds like it might bring Canon up closer with the competition, but in my experience theirs is not on par with Sony A9iii and Nikon's Z9.

I'm deducing because it uses already avaliable sensor to meet timelines and $8000 market positioning. And is not a flagship model.

For R1 flagship new sensor makes sense which can get implemented in a higher segment cinema camera, like C500 successor.

No one will give you top everything in mid segment price point and C400 already has a bunch of advantages, even over $25K Burano.

Don't know was it a9 III, or other SONY camera, but Evan uses what AP gives him to use, and AP is exclusively SONY.
The image may become iconic if he wins election, and if he loses - this one taken with Canon (because Getty is Canon shop) may become iconic instead (but the camera make does not really matter, because corporations choose supplier based on many factors, and camera specs are not the most important, because all 3 big makers build the decent stuff):

Seems the iconic picture of former President Trump raising his fist with flag overhead was taken with the A9III. That’s one for the history books. The photographer was a long time Sony shooter.

This photo AGAIN, shows it's NOT just the camera but the photographer AND the subject matter which makes or breaks a photo!

This one photo is LIKELY to affect an entire election simply because of its subject matter and framing of important elements!

From a technical point of view, i would boost the shadows until i see some cloth weave details in the jackets and pants. Then i would do a 1.5 pixel Unsharp Mask to bring out more details on the edges of the clothing and faces.

Make no mistake about it! This is a GREAT photo but it could have been done with a Canon, Fuji, Panasonic or even an iPhone camera! It just shows y'all that luck, timing, framing and positioning ALL play a big role in getting a truly great image!

Much like the lottery where you can't win if you don't buy a ticket, you can't get a great photo without turning on the camera, actually pointing the lens somewhere appropriate and then pressing the shutter/record button!

TAKE MORE PICTURES PERIOD !!!

For once you're making sense!

I don't think increasing detail in the periphery would help; you want all attention focused on the middle imo.

I'd rather see a picture of a landscape, a puppy, a car, a park bench, a tree, a bagel, a bottle of WhistlePig than...
