Seem your experience is not the widely held opinion. Most that have compared them back to back would argue the A9III has the better AF. That said, I’m very curious how QPAF will stack up. The R1 is a large camera… perhaps not 1DX series large… but nonetheless large. Especially, compared to Sony Alpha bodies. I think the Canon will need to have the performance across the board, to justify the extra bulk.I absolutely disagree. Own an R3 since the launch and constantly shooting some projects with a9 III and a1.
AF on Sony is I’d say on par but in no way better. On par in sports in good light but in bad/low light is does not shine at all.
Pre-capture on A9 III is so poorly executed that it is basically unusable. If you shoot sports you are constantly (like every second) half pressing the shutter button to focus (or bbf) and you end up with hundreds or thousands (120fps) of images within minutes.
And no, you don’t have time to erase sets after each press of AF button.
Maybe sensor is better or video modes (I don’t do video) but as far as stills go, I always pick up R3 for sports or fast paced events before Sony.
Only a few more days to go before all is known. Exciting times.
