RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM

Another one, ooC. This is one keeper out of ca. 700 pics i have taken within 10 min with electronic shutter and slow serial recording. Glad to have used the R6 and not the R5 and only produced ca 13 GB waste. :) _A1A8037.jpg

Here are two examples of Macro-Photos with different SA-Controll Settings. The first one is wit SA +2 and the second with SA -2. One can easily distinguish both regarding the round shaped bokeh of the background in SA +2 and the deformed bokeh in SA -2. _A1A8231.jpg_A1A8232.jpg

Here are two examples of foreground bokeh. The first with SA +2 and the second with SA -2. One can see, that in SA +2 the foreground is more blurred, whereas in SA -2 it has more structure. _A1A8223.jpg_A1A8226.jpg

Series of test shot of the RF 100 to see if there is an issue with focus shift.
I used a tripod and a macro rail and the 10 seconds delay mode.
For the first batch the manual focus set at mfd.
f/2.8, 5.6, 11, 16, 22, 32

Any love for the Spherical Aberration Control? I just got back from the grocery and set out the apples. It looked painterly so misted them a bit and spent about 2 minutes taking a dozen shots. I think I'm going to get some grapes tomorrow and try some more of this.

I think most people have preconceptions what they want to do with gear. Experienced photogs have never had an SA control so they don't use it. If they forget to lock it or bump the lock and take unusable photos they'll be just as mad as film guy who forgets to set the ISO knob properly and wastes a whole roll. But I feel there's some good photos to be had using this feature and I should try it more.

I think the same is true of the AF tilt feature Canon's been working on. The more experienced you are... the better a photog you are... the more ingrained is the idea of a focus plane perpendicular to the lens. You train yourself for years to only look for those shots and literally tune out any other possibilities. So when Canon comes out with this many people are saying they don't want it. I bet it will be good. (Unless you forget to turn it off and take unusable photos.)
