Somehow Canon has not thought their evil plan through.

A lot of folks were expecting the R7 to cost as much as the R6 II.
At that budget, Canon could have put in a faster image sensor but I still doubt it would be as fast as the R5.
Fewer people would complain and it would be more usable but Canon went in a different direction and leaned on 15 FPS mechanical which is coincidentally faster than the R5.
Canon seems to suck at evil planning.
The R8 even goes up to 40 FPS with less rolling shutter than the R5.
They even crippled the R5 with 45 MP to not overshadow the R3.

The R5 has a read out time of 16.3ms for 45 mpx, compared with 14.5ms for 24 Mpx for the R8 - the R5 has a much more advanced sensor, reading out the data per pixel nearly twice as fast as the R8. The rolling shutter on the R8 is only 11% less, which isn't much.
I do not understand:

Having more than twice the Mpx over the 20 Mpx R3 is just what those who need resolution and reach wanted, and it was a leap forward for Canon with a brand new sensor of very high quality and a readout time close to sensors of half its number of megapixels.

That 100-400mm can also replace macro lens for quite a few users especially given its better close focus capabilities compared to both EF 100-400 and RF 100-500.

Exactly. That's why I still hit the streets and shoot with vintage gear like my Mamiya 6 or a Canon 7 rangefinder. Helps to get back on pure skills as a photographer.

Here are some purple heron images, shot with my R7 and 700mm (EF 500mm + 1.4 TC), f=8. With subject tracking enabled, it tracks such flying birds quite well in front of a vivid background when they aren't too small/far away. The image of the wading bird is slightly cropped.

oday I updated the firmware of my R7.
I went out to test the camera with the same card as always and the buffer filled up too quickly. I hope it's not a problem with the update.

I can't find the new auto capture function
