Is a “crazy” wide angle L prime coming?

Sounds logical, but would it be really crazy?
"Crazy" is used as a hyperbole in marketing, so anything that has not been produced yet, in this case mating IS (and perhaps VCM) to a 14mm 1.4 would fit the bill. Also, it is not until the last few years that we even have the capabilities to make such extreme lenses, and the price will certainly be "crazy" as well.

Yeah, “crazy” to me is a focal length + aperture combination that we haven’t seen before that makes me go “Wow”, like the 28-70/2 or the 24-105/2.8.

Adding IS is fine and welcome, but since Sigma already has a 14/1.4, I won’t call a Canon 14/1.4L IS crazy.
Does Canon consider all other manufacturers when it says “not seen before!”? In that same vein, is it ‘crazy’ for Canon, a regular consumer or us camera nerds?
I think the lens will be reasonably impressive to us camera nerds, with a side of laowa/ttartisan/rolinon already having a manual version of that.

I think so. Canon Europe’s headline for the 10-20L launch press release reads “Canon launches the widest auto focus zoom lens ever made for a full frame camera,” and for that lens, they are right. It is the widest FF AF zoom lens at launch across all manufacturers — still is I think.

I too expect something not seen before. Another 1,4/14mm wouldn't belong to this category. Of course, the TS 1,4/14mm in mentioned in jest would not only be crazy, but totally unrealistic. Yet, since Canon have surprised us in the past with many premieres, what about a 10 or 12mm f/1,4, perfectly corrected for astro?
Optical innovation is Canon's main strength, so I keep waiting for something radical!

An option to have the red ring emit light would be sweet, as long has you can turn it off.
Of cause and a mode synchronized with the shutter to avoid impact to pictures and movies.
Wouldn't you prefer a Cartier version with the real thingies?
Would add to much weight and cost. This item is targeted to vloggers etc. ;)

But jokes aside:
"Crazy" is used as a hyperbole in marketing
I cannot remenber one of the manufacterers use this word. IMO this is a term used by vloggers etc to generate views and clicks.
As I don't like it either it triggered me to post the nonsense above.

Gosh I hope they don't put IS in a 14/1.4 prime. I could see it being useful for filmmaking but I feel like that lens is much more useful to landscape photographers who will have absolutely no use for IS at that focal length. I do shoot handheld a lot when traveling but IBIS is perfectly sufficient especially at that focal length.

And I always wonder if a mobile lens element doesn't have a negative (centering issues!) incidence on optical quality.

Yeah, coming out with a lens that Sigma already has wouldn't count as "crazy", I don't think.

Maybe it's a 14 f/1.0.

So, will Canon finally make a fast prime wider than 24mm? It would be the first ever.

Will be interesting to see how it stacks up against the Sony 14/1.8GM (incredible lens in a very compact package, $1600) and Sigma's 14/1.4 DG DN (currently the ultimate astro lens for anyone who doesn't mind the weight, also $1600.)
