Canon to announce 5 new lenses on October 30

Greedy Canon UK of course as Canon in other parts of the world doesn't operate the same way. People with enough financial incentive will find ways around unreasonable profits whether grey market or flying to the US (or Australia :) ) or importing it yourself. If you could get a refurb from the US somehow then that would be the best value for you.

Does Canon UK provide any other advantages eg CPS membership for non-pros? Canon Australia got rid of their workshop/try-buy events/staff and run very lean now. CPS is restricted to pros under registered companies and with specific gear only.

Yeah, I won't really buy anything from official Canon resellers. Grey market and used only.

I don't think the pricing of the lenses should come as a surprise to anyone. Other than the people on facebook that want L lenses for under $1000.

24 $1499
50 $1399
70-200 $2999
VR thing $449
It would have been really cool if the 50mm was $1299. LOL jk I find the price is reasonable, but it means there is a $1100 gap between the f/1.8 and the f/1.4 and then $1000 more to the 1.2L. It’s in a good spot when you consider that. I also think that too many people sleep on the new 50mm f/1.8 STM - it’s really a compact, fun lens that is better than its predecessors.

I would like to make it VERY clear to anyone considering these VCM lenses. This autofocus motor is truly PHENOMENAL for photo and video.

You’re not wrong about people on Facebook. It’s baffling how incredibly unrealistic some of those people in groups can be…

While we were waiting for something definitive on the new lenses, the mysterious fifth one in particular, at least for me, the thread wandered off into the world of new Macs. I found this interesting because my very late model Intel iMac, with some of the extras, today hit the wall and basically froze up. Too many AI masking layers, I think, in Lightroom while I was processing RAWs from the Oct.10-11 Aurora. I went off and had lunch and by the time I returned everything was fine and the files were cooked to my liking. But...

So all of a sudden I was interested in new iMacs more than new lenses. Heresy here, I know. And I found the new iMacs interesting. The four Thunderbolt ports were a major improvement in my opinion. I have doubts about the RAM limitation at 32MB and while I have no problem with storage topping out at 2 TB, I imagine some will.

Late afternoon I saw a Mac mini was also upgraded to M4 and upgraded past the iMac with more cores and more RAM at 64MB and more storage, at 8TB. Only three Thunderbolt 5 ports versus four for the iMac, unfortunately. Priced lower than the top iMac, no monitor, of course. But quality monitors are not that pricey, and frankly, I find a 2K monitor better than a 5K monitor for judging sharpness.

Anyway, something I am going to ponder. Especially since there is no 200-500/4 w 1.4x to have dreams about, and at a far lower price.

Wonder how the 24 1.4 will be for astro. Otherwise none really interest me. The telescoping nature of my original RF 70-200 didn’t bother me.

Being compatible with extenders is nice. Though not really necessary for me already owning a 100-500
