Canon EOS R1 & Canon EOS R5 Mark II announcement coming July 17

You are misquoting or misinterpreting me.
No, Canon's aim is to produce a successor to the former 1 series model. Sure, competitors exist.
Why should Canon compete with the unripe and unfinished A9III or with a Nikon made by a competitor having a tiny market share?
Why should we forcefully try to see Canon as a follower? No reason for this. Wait for July 17.
Edit: comparing the EOS 3 to the EOS R3 is just absurd.
I may very well be misunderstanding you, and vice versa. My original reply, as best I can recall, was in response to a comment from Canon Rumors Guy who said that the biggest thing people don't understand about the 1 Series is that Canon is only competing against Canon, or something like that. And my point was that the fact Canon is losing business to Sony suggests otherwise. That's it. I'm not sure how your comments here are relevant to my point. And I have no idea what you mean with your last statement about the EOS 3.

I’d say that’s not really the 1-series competing with other brands, at least not directly. It’s more about B2B salespeople and bean counters competing against their counterparts. Reportedly, many working pros at those firms were not happy about being forced to switch (and others were happy for the opportunity).

So while Canon is competing against Sony and Nikon, that’s really happening at the corporate level and not at the level of designing the 1-series or marketing them to individual buyers.

Do you believe in fairies? Odds are a 25% mark up over US price.
22.2% at current exchange rate, allowing for TAX/VAT in the UK vs pretax in USA.
EDIT: I made a big mistake - didn’t realise that the US price had been up by $300 to $4299. It’s only a 13% price gouge here. Apologies.

More made up nonsense from these supposed "Inside sources".

They know nothing more than we do. Stop being so gullible.
Let’s recap. Announcement date, accurately predicted. Most specs, accurately predicted. Shipping timeframe, accurately predicted.

Person making up nonsense and looking foolish by doing so, you. I accurately predicted that one.

Wrong, they just copied it from Canon when they announced it.

Specs were are not even close. Anything they got right like resolution was minimal and a guess. Pretty much everyone knew it most likely would have 24mp. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

Anyone with inside information would have gotten EVERYTHING right. It is so obvious these numbers and specs are BS and guesses it is not even funny.

Only a ignorant fool thinks they got inside information.

Sure, sure. Posting the correct announcement date several days before Canon said anything official was what, then? A lucky guess? Fake news?

You might want to loosen the strap on that red hat a notch or two. It seems to be cutting off circulation to your… Well, never mind. It probably won’t help.
I watched that time line, Canon released the date before CR.

Your eyesight functions as well as your mind.
Aparently when I see this before any predictions of when it will be released.

Face it, your wrong. They have no inside information. Anything minor they get right is an educated guess. We all have been doing that with varying degrees of success.

Doesn't mean we are in contact with Canon. You love to brag about being a scientist but don't have the common sense or critical thinking to see past the obvious.

LOL. I was hoping you really weren't that dumb, though I’m not surprised in the least. That teaser came out on July 10th. The date of July 11th is even right there in the file name of the screenshot you posted.

Try to follow along, though you may lack the mental capacity so I’ll take it slow.
  1. Look closely at the date, July 10th, on which Canon said something big is coming on July 17th.
  2. Then look closely at the date this thread was started, where CR says the R1 and R5II will be announced on July 17th.
  3. Notice that this thread was started on July 5th.
  4. Find a calendar, and look carefully for those two dates, July 5th and July 10th.
  5. Can you figure out which date came first?
  6. If not, the answer is July 5th.
  7. That means CR correctly stated the announcement date for the R1 and R5 II five days before Canon revealed it. (Sorry, I realize I made a leap there – 10 minus 5 is 5, just in case that ‘five days before’ number confused you.)
Hope I didn’t go too fast for you, there. Have a nice day.

What does it not do? I guess the base ISO is 250 and there does not seem to be any dual gain, so I think the DR looses a stop for the global shutter. is there something else wrong with it? I am using the R5 with VND adapter for outdoor portraits, but Flash-sync at 1/16000 would be another approach.

What kinds of flashes are you using that can put out any appreciable amount of energy to compete with the sun in only 0.0625 milliseconds? That's only 62.5 microseconds!

Your thoughts very much mirror my own. I also prefer the ergonomics and comfort of an integrated grip camera (even though it weighs a bit more).

The only other deficit I might add for the R3 is the limited buffer at 30 fps when shooting RAW. On a few occasions (e.g. bears chasing salmon) I have managed to hit the buffer. The other two deficits you mention are more noticeable (i.e., occur more frequently).

I don't know about the R1 vs R5 Mark II + grip (which of the three different ones?), but the 5D Mark V + BG-E20 weighed more than the 1D X Mark II.

The DR is probably still better than my 5d2 and I am still happy with the photos taken with it, but I feel real disappointment about poor auto-focus. I don't have any experience with shooting indoor sporting through.

That's why, even after I had a 5D Mark II, I still shot sports with the 70-200/2.8 on a 50D (and then a 7D), and only used the 5D Mark II as a second body for the occasional wide angle shot (when shooting sports - everything more static got the 5D Mark II). Once I got a 5D Mark III that had good AF, I shot sports with the 70-200/2.8 on the III, left the wide lens on the II, and left the 7D at home. Then the 7D Mark II came out with "anti-flicker" and I went back to APS-C for the 70-200/2.8.

I don't understand the anti-EV protestors. We all have choice. No one is forcing anyone to buy a car with a particular type of fuel. Some cars will be better at some things vs others. Very weird!

I switched to a BEV this year and I don't have to pay USD2500/year in fuel as there is no cost to charge at home and no scheduled maintenance. Brakes replaced at ~200,000kms vs USD2k every 50,000kms on my previous car. It just made financial sense to me and with some new toys in it made it great value.
YMMV (ha ha!)

Your electricity cost each month is not based on how much electricity you use?

Sure, EVs make more sense for certain types of driving patterns, much less sense for others. And yes, the energy cost per mile to charge at home is less than the cost per mile for an ICE pretty much everywhere.

But I've never lived anywhere that gave me free electricity, or even an "all you can eat" buffet at a fixed price.
