Canon EOS R5 Mark II expected availability for preorders

One can just use a Florida shipping service to avoid sales tax and forward it on. Sure you have to wait an extra day or two, but no Payboo card is needed.
Not sure who still allows this, but I had to start paying sales tax at B&H and Adorama a couple years ago - I live in FL.

Really?

I bought a 100-300 from B&H through Florida to the EU, it cost me €150 in shipping and taxes to save a few thousand. There was no sales tax.

I pay 21% VAT everyday, I have no guilt in saving some a few times a year. ;)

The only email I got from B&H after my R1 order confirmation was an email telling me I could save $393.69 by using their Payboo credit card, instead. They neglected to mention in the email that the card has a 36% APR. Not that I carry a balance on any credit card, but still...
Interest rate is 29.99%, compounded monthly, so that would be 33.6% not 36% right? I don't care that much about it since I pay off the balance at the later of 1) I get my bill or notice the charge on the bill 2) I get the merchandise. Normally I'll check the account and pay it off when the merchandise arrives.

A couple days ago, I got an email from B&H that I've never received on any previous pre-order I've made with them. It was a thank you as well as a "confirmed ship date" of August 20th. I thought that was interesting, since I've never gotten anything like that about any previous camera or lens.

I got the same email! First time receiving an email like this for me as well, despite having made many pre-orders with them in the past.

Well they have to make their money somehow, given that they are effectively eating 10% of MSRP for those of us in states with higher sales taxes. I use that card for all my orders at B&H and pay it off as soon as the charge posts, hasn't had any problems so far.

I

Fair point. I too would buy my cars using credit cards if feasible. However, I think the dealer for the last car I purchased wanted to saddle me with the surcharge (the nerve of them!). I politely declined. :(
Keep in mind that you only save the sales tax if you pay off the credit card in the first month. You don't get to save the tax and pay off the camera over time. On my R5 Mk2, I'm saving almost $400 on sales tax but I have to pay it off on the first statement.

Has anyone here ever pre-ordered with Canon USA direct before? Do they tend to ship early or on the release date?
I have no Idea if they’d ship early or on the release date - But as I postulated in another thread here it’s in Canon’s best interest to sell as many camera through their own sales channels as they’ll be able to charge the same prices as an independent dealer.

Of course they don’t want to anger the retail dealers but they’ll likely sell as many units as they can get away with - it’s all about the $$$$ in the end…

Yeah, sadly I have to pay sales tax on every order if I didn't have the PayBoo card. This wasn't the case maybe 2-3 years ago? Perhaps the company you used is set up as tax exempt? But right now, there are only a few places I can order online from that let me avoid the sales tax for online purchases.

I've preordered both the r52 and r1 from bestbuy. I don't get free sales tax but I get no interest over 18 months each which is great for me.

I almost always order through Canon Direct, and they generally ship on the date they have on the web page (or close, a day or so later). This time they had August 1st, but something tells me they screwed that up, like most of the info on that page. So, this time around, I don't have any confidence in the ship date.

I got the same message and it's the first time I've received a similar message like this. I'm leaving on a trip to Greenland on Aug 29 so don't know if this means I can expect it before then or not!
