Canon has released Canon EOS R5 Mark II Firmware v1.0.2

I have been BEGGING for more Custom modes to be added than just 3!! On the R5, there is no reason more can\'t be added! Right now I have my custom modes set up for: general photography, highs-speed sports/action and low-speed sports/action with pre-capture, but would LOVE to add a 4th custom mode for flash-photography!

Very strange thing! I have both cards formatted! I repeated the procedure and... same error!

Then I tried to unmount the card where I inserted the firmware and obviously it says no firmware found.

I reinserted it and it still gives me an error message.

Then I removed the other card and, unexpectedly, the procedure started!

Let's hope for the best!
You are only supposed to have one card inserted during the process, also I think the official instructions say that no lens should be on the camera.

Firmware updates with body's that have 2 slots, one CF, one SD has to be performed from the SD card. I normally remove my CF card then replace. The one thing you also need to do is re-enable the CF card as a "destination" since powering the camera with it missing sets all recording (stills or video) to the one card installed.

A big + 1 to that. Right now, I have a need for more custom setups than available positions, so I have resorted to keeping 2 different configurations on the SD card and use the load/safe functions to card and choose between them depending on the pursuit of the day. This is nothing a couple of more customizable buttons couldn't resolve, but it isn't a lot of added overhead in my case.

For those getting the message that the firmware is older than what's in the camera, what worked for me is to pull out the CF card and put the FW on the uSD card with only the uSD card in the camera. I ran the update and it worked. Never had to do this before. There is a thread on DPR.

You likely have a firmware file on both cards, check with a card reader and delete them if needed.
This was my issue, I formatted both cards but it seems that does not delete the firmware file.

Edit, I just checked the other card and there is no firmware file on it. I did remove it from my camera and the update showed up, weird.

You can get more custom modes by saving/loading the settings on the card. You can create a custom setting file for flash (using all three custom modes for specific flash scenarios) and save that to the card. Just load it when you want to do flash photography.
This is what I do, and I prefer this way because you can keep the camera specialized for whatever type of shooting you are doing at the time. All with three different custom modes! :-D

FYI for everyone, v1.0.2 was available on the Canon USA website yesterday. It's not there now.

It is still posted on the Canon Hong Kong site however.

I suspect it would be pulled everywhere if they found something, but it's too early to tell.

The update only works when there is one card in the camera, either a CFE card or a SD card with the firmware update. This also applies if you use the Canon Connect App to update the firmware.
Canon will fix this in a future firmware update .
