Patent Application: Super Telephoto Primes

So you want a 600mm f/6.3 L for less than $800. :ROFLMAO:

Some will know what me ol' Irish Da would suggest: "Wish in one hand, sh!t in the other, and see which fills up first."

I repeat...good luck. When Canon launches it, you can use it to take pictures of pigs flying over fields of snow in hell.
I don't quite understand if you're making fun of me. But I think we're getting at the same thing. I also say that Canon will not produce lenses like 400 f4, 600 f6.3. I also stated this in the post above.:ROFLMAO:
Good luck to you too

Not you, personally. Just the idea in general.

I disagree with your conclusion, though. Canon has already made two 400mm f/4 lenses, for example, and I could easily seem them making on for the RF mount. But I do agree that they're not going to make a lens like a 400/4 or a 600/6.3 and charge less than $800 for it. I would question the sanity of anyone who legitimately thinks that is likely.

I didn't say they should produce it for under $800. I want 400, 500, 600, 800 primes to be produced. Especially alternatives for primes over $12,000. That's all. Thank you.

Some people have either switched to Nikon or added a Nikon body to their kit specifically for the 600/6.3 or 800/6.3. Of course, those are $4-6K lenses, and I'd expect Canon versions to be in a similar range.

Of the lenses in the patent, the 500/5.6 and 600/6.3 could be 'affordable'. There is an apparent threshold of a 100mm front element where the price jumps significantly.

The current EF 400mm f/4 DO ii actually has a front element of 95mm - I once measured it. The f number is a bit higher than 4 and the focal length just under 400mm. A bit more shaving of the f-number and focal length could produce a cheaper front element. But, the fashion now is for longer narrower lenses.

Of course. I should have indicated ‘calculated’ threshold. The from element of my 600/4 II is 142mm in diameter, not 150mm.
