Have R7, is adding the 24-70 F2.8 IS USM a good idea for general photography?

First post and first camera here. An R7 with kit lens and a 100- 400 zoom. I got it for wildlife on our place. But I started to do volunteer photography for the special olympics at various events taking pics of everything from basketball to swiming to track and field. And so Im liking photography more and more. I'm ready to invest some more in a better lens for general purpose stuff like this and came accross the 24 - 70 F2.8 RF IS USM. Its a bit pricey which I can deal with partcularly If later I buy a R6 or R6. I read about the crop vs full frame camera thing. But I dont find much about a lens like this being a good / bad / reccomended thing for a R7 camera. Hoping for more perspective and insight on this from more experienced folks if I can. Thanks.

For me the main disadvantage would be the focal range of the 24-70mm on the R7, from 38 - 112 mm full frame equivalent. That is not very practical at the wide angle end, but that depends on the subject matter that you want to photograph. I used the EF 24-70mm on the EOS 10D, 20D and 30D and did not like it, so I bought the EF-S 17-55 f2.8 lens as ‘ standard’ zoom lens.

The Sigma RF 18-50 would be a more ‘general purpose’ f2.8 zoom lens on the R7. It is an APS-C lens and can only be used in crop mode on the R6.
