Hi!

I’m using an LG Ultrafine 5K today and was looking to upgrade to an HDR-monitor. I’m looking at the ASUS ProArt PA27UCX, but I can’t find much on YouTube etc, is this model called something else in the US or is old or irrelevant? Seems like a great screen so I found it kinda odd I couldn’t find much about it.

TIA.

If you’re planning to use this monitor with a computer running macos, be aware that it will use a scaling method that is very slow and will result in blurry text.
If you’re going to use it with something else, this looks like a great monitor!

That’s very interesting… I didn’t know that, would it be the same way with the LG I’ve already got? Using an M1 Mac Mini.

I switched, under protest, to the studio display after moving from a 2017 27” imac to a mac studio. I like the monitor, but it should have been at least €500 cheaper. And it can’t do proper HDR nor proper dimming.
But it’s sharp and integrates very well…

I know my parents don’t notice the scaling blur nor the performance decrease on their mac mini setup , but since you’re on Canon rumors I suspect you’re more demanding than the average consumer :)

Excellent! Thank you so much, most appreciated. Yeah, I originally wanted the Studio Display, but HDR was the main reason to switch. So there is really no option other than the Studio Display, LG 5K and XDR ($7000 here)?

Are there any useful differences between the Studio Display and the Ultrafine?

If you want bigger than 21” and high DPI, your options are limited. I think Eizo has a few models that work well, but those will be €€€€.
Samsung and Dell also had options with the right DPI when I looked 2 years ago, both SDR.
I’d love to see a 27” or larger high DPI screen with HDR support, but not at XDR prices!
Another option is to get an OLED TV, but that moves you up to 42” at the smallest and isn’t designed as a monitor. But you get excellent HDR and netflix for your lunch breaks :)

Better build quality, no backlight unevenness, no adhesive issues and doesn’t interfere with your wifi.
Slightly better brightness and a tweaked algorithm to have 10-bit colour on an 8-bit panel.

But it’s the same panel, so the differences will be small.

Yeah, you and me both, there is a definite gap there for us that wants a 27» for Mac. I sit 40 cm away from the screen so 32» is really unnecessary large , so I don’t want to pay for a 32» either .

I have a Samsung 65» S95b Tv and i love it for tv, but as you say, they’re not optimized for photo-editing and would be way too large on my desk .

You just solved a WiFi-issue I’ve had for 5 years. I have 4 meters from the first node in my mesh-WiFi to my Mac and the speed takes a massive hit from one side of the door to the next, even with the door open, I even placed a node in that room and it didn’t help, so I just live with it. But, at least now I know why. So thank you! :D:D
