I own a current license for Topaz Photo, but about a year ago I let the balance of my Topaz licenses lapse.

Now I wonder if the new Gigapixel 8 is worth jumping back on for...

Comments? Suggestions?
I'm on the opposite side, I hold the licenses and will most likely let them lapse at the end of the term.

The development of the current upgrades has been unstable, components/functions added that can't run larger images on a fairly robust machines and new versions are released without resolving old bugs.

Personally I believe they have lost their focus and are using paid subscribers for beta testing. Just look at their forums, complaints from people across all operating systems on a rather large scale. When they get their acts together I will think about returning but for now I will use other resources.

Thanks for that info. I'll stick with my old versions of Topaz software.

The Sharpen v4.1.0 and Denoise v3.7.2 stand alone applications still do an outstanding job. I use them frequently and there are many times they out perform the PAI application and they are clean, do exactly as designed, are not buggy and use minimal computer resources.

I actually have another take on this. Yes, they are using us as beta testers and it can be annoying. But, in turn, they are constantly adding and keeping us up to date with new features rather than saving them up and making us wait for an annual new release. I don't follow their forums - CR takes up enough of my time - so don't know the litany of gripes.

I use/used it for it's basic functions, sharpen and denoise and they did a great job until 2.1.2 where things started to get a bit challenging.

I beta for them so I get pre-release and much of my challenge comes from the beta testers conveying that there are challenges. Time is taken to convey the challenges in great detail and the application is released without resolution. The past two version, the application re-opens after it is closed for many windows users myself included and they were aware of the issue. They were told, it was ignored. The removal tool is placing cartoon images randomly in processed images, new functions are released that take hours to process a single image, memory is allocated by TPAI and not released when the application is closed.

They went from a focused, tightly disciplined group to a team that hustles out releases without proper quality control. You are correct, they are constantly adding to the application which should be a significant value but the releases are sloppy or the new functions are slow and difficult to fit into a workflow I don't view that as a positive. And if the minimum requirements for a system continue to change rapidly because new functions are resource hungry or have been poorly developed/written that is not a positive for the current subscribers.

I have been a cheerleader for them for a long time but it's just my opinion they have become rushed and sloppy. New releases should be as close to perfect as possible upon release, not released with know problems. My expectation is that I purchase finished products with minimal bugs, not to continue as a beta tester for a cost.

I use it for occasional sharpening and denoising when DxO doesn't do a good job and for upscaling when suitable with post-intel Macs and haven't had those Windows problems. And I use it only on jpegs, not RAW. I use only DxOPL for RAW conversion. For serious editing, I use PS, which is what it is great on jpegs for but it is not as good as Topaz for the other uses. DxOPL/PS/Topaz have different strengths and weaknesses and each one has its place.
