NOPE! No change after installing the firmware update. The shutter still runs on while holding down the AF-ON button. I have now read that others are having the same issue with their R7 camera bodies. Oh well. I was thinking of selling it in any case.

Ooooh that\'s it. I was experiencing the same stupid bug, where the camera doesn\'t stop machine gunning, since I switched to back button focus.
With the shutter sound of the R7 being loud as hell, I was scared to trigger some PTSD patients.

I just did the upgrade using the in camera card method. No problems with the upgrade. Haven\'t had a chance to
check the camera with respect to shooting pictures but expect it to be \"the same\" (but better). It preserved my custom programs (C1, C2, and C3) so I\'m a happy camper.

Got my R7 thinking it would be similar to my 7DII Also got a 100-500. Am finding that frequently when taking pics of moving aircraft it seems to find difficulty focussing, and hunts in and out. Never had this issue with the 7DII. Anyone had this issue or knows of settings that fix it?

you give no information what settings you use and of course just because a moniker is almost similar you can't really expect to become a camera with simmilar behavior.



Your issue seems close to some behavior I see with my camera. In my case however it is not a firmware but a configuration issue.

Setting the AF behavior, the AF field size, the modern follow focus, etc... as suggested by Ken Rockwell but expecting the camera to behave like an old 5DII with factory setting made me loose pictures due to focus hunt quiet often. I love my R7 but each time I switch from my 1DXII to the R7 I need long time to adapt to the different behavior.

Just searched at usa.canon.com in the community forum there for "R7 firmware 1.6" and found this thread by several folks who bricked their R7s installing 1.6, to the point where they wouldn't even turn on and had to be sent back to Canon for repair.

I don't see anything I need in this update, so I'll hold off for a while longer. Compatibility with the new battery for the R5 Mark II - which is back ordered everywhere anyway - doesn't mean anything to me, I don't use a speedlight, and I don't shoot in high speed modes. (3 fps is enough for me!)

I just verified my R7 starts after updating to the latest firmware. Afterwards - many days/weeks later - I checked battery status in order to charge it. I didn't have any chance to really use it but my R7 is OK after the upgrade.
