Hi all,
I hope it’s acceptable to share my thoughts here. If not, please feel free to (re)move this post.
I have been a member of this forum since the beginning of the year and a reader for much longer (not only CR, but also the other rumor sites like NR, SAR, 43rumors etc.). And one thing I’ve noticed left me scratching my head: the forum’s tone can be quite bipolar. On one hand, people are incredibly helpful, providing assistance, information, and sharing photos. On the other hand, some of the same individuals can become downright nasty and insulting when defending “their” company—especially when competing companies are involved. Whether it’s about specs, sales, ergonomics, or any other aspect, discussions can quickly devolve into name-calling, with terms like “idiots,” “hacks,” and “asinine” thrown around.
This phenomenon baffles me. While I understand the desire to defend hard-earned purchases, the intensity of emotions directed toward corporations that don’t truly care about individual buyers surprises me. I recall similar debates from my school days, such as Sega vs. Nintendo, but those were among children. Here, we’re dealing with adults who have a lifetime of experiences.
I would hope for more mutual respect regarding decisions and preferences. If someone forms an opinion based on incorrect data, it would be better to politely guide them toward accurate information rather than resorting to name-calling. And of course this is unfortunately not confined to CR.
What are your thoughts? Am I being naive here? Cheers
PS: Having had cams from Nikon, Canon, Sony, Olympus and Panasonic I don´t consider myself a fanboy of any of these companys. I always bought what suited my needs and budget at a certain time. And right now it`s the A7C which does best what I need it to do. It might very well be a different camera in the near or far future.
