Canon released its third quarter financials a few days ago, and while there's a lot to unpack there was one line that lept out at me.

A strong financial company is good for us and for the industry in general.
Being able to fund R&D for new products is great with the main corporate issue being able to delver enough stock.

"we also expect sales of RF lenses to increase and are aiming to significantly expand sales by over 20% in the fourth quarter."
This is a big change and perhaps mostly by being able to deliver more lenses.
The current apology page doesn't list any lenses at the moment.

Back in August, the list included the RF200-800 as the sole lens.

There will be aggressive pricing in November and December.

We have 2 major gift giving holidays here in December, as well as my birthday, so I’m curious if there’s a good enough deal to tempt me. I’m looking forward to the 50VCM, but the prospect of a macro lens makes me inclined to wait for spring.

I tend to plan purchases to coincide with family vacations to get the most use out of them, which means I need to get something delivered today or at the start of May :)

But before I even consider adding something, I need to through what I already have and sell/donate things I don’t use anymore!

Ahh the 40D, what a great camera model. I just checked up upon my two 40Ds a couple of hours ago (one is astro modified) like I do twice a year. I'll do that every time we move the clock from normal to summer-time or vice versa making sure the time is correct and that the batteries are ok etc. Both of them still works like a charm. I also still got my first digital one, the 400D, also still worked perdectly when tested today.

Where have all the doom predicting experts gone?
Seems Canon are faring very well, despite the lack of the soo bitterly needed 3rd. party lenses or of a 60 MP sensor...
Could it be that their strategy was the right one?

No, it just takes time. The doomsayers will be right, eventually. When the sun becomes a Red Giant in four billion years, if not before. Patience.

Organisations are now all into Equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), where Diversity = Recognizing, respecting, and valuing the differences between people. But, for Canon, Diversity has a different take.

There has been a market leader before Canon and there will be one after them. Does it matter? I don't think so.

For now these a great numbers and it looks like Canon is doing a very good job. I find the Nano imprinting especially interesting and hope to read more about it in the future.

I have been waiting for the RF14-35 to come down in price but it has been stubbornly leveling out at AUD1950. Maybe black friday sale but it would be good to upgrade from my EF16-35/4 before snorkeling with manatees in Florida and diving with hammerheads in Bimini!
