SmallRig sent me the SmallRig x Potato Jet Tribex CF Tripod Kit. I'm a tripod dork and the new way to extend the legs, especially on uneven surfaces seemed cool, so I asked for one.

I will write about it in a couple of weeks after using it. I am quite OCD about tripod (and bag) design and I'll be honest.

The video head that it comes with is ok, but isn't all that smooth. It'll be fine for most people to get started. There is no bowl for a different head, so you'd have to use bases to mount to this tripod.

There are some fit and finish issues that I see, but that doesn't matter to everyone. It is priced in the mid-tier of tripods.

The leg extension is pretty cool once you're used to it. Press the trigger, drop the legs and it's level 90% of the time, even when you extend them onto uneven surfaces.

I'll do more in an article as I said. SmallRig comes up with some pretty cool things.

I seem to remember that back in my film days I had a Manfrotto monopod that did something similar. Squeeze the trigger and the single leg dropped to the ground. It also adjusted up and down the same way.

I'd be eager to hear any experiences from anyone else who has brought this tripod in the door. Very intrigued by the leg system, but have some concerns about the rest -- quality of the head, lack of a bowl mount/leveling base (even given the legs are supposed to be your primary quick-leveling solution), etc.
