R5 Mk 2 and Sigma 50mm f1.4 Art lens - strange noise

I’m experiencing some strange noises from my Sigma 50mm f1.4 Art lens when used on the Canon R5 Mk 2. I’m using the Canon EF to RF control ring adapter. This does not happen on my Canon R6 Mk 2.

Also, when changing modes on the R5 Mk 2 with the Sigma lens attached (via the adapter), the same noise occurs. I can only describe the noise as scratchy. Camera is running firmware 1.0.1

Anyone else have the same issue?

Unfortunately, I don’t have a Sigma dock to check firmware but may have to buy one.

does the lens have a stabilizer? if so turn it off and see if the noise goes away.

No, the lens doesn’t have stabilisation. Further tests show that it also happens on my R3 although to a lesser extent. It’s totally fine on my R6 mk2 though.
interesting, I have a similar problem when I use my 24-105 f4 on my R5M2 in video mode. If IS is on the lens makes a clicking noise and the view jumps and twists viewable in the viewfinder and maybe even in the video itself, I have yet to check that.

I spoke to Sigma UK and they said they hadn’t heard or experienced any issues. They asked me to send a video, which I’ll do in the next couple of days. I’ve decided I’m going to return the lens and save up for the RF50mm f1.4 L VCM. It’s a shame because it’s a lovely lens but the new Canon lens will be smaller and no adapter to deal with.
