So I keep an eye on the Canon delayed shipping list and wandered over to take a peak and low and behold the RF200-800 is gone. Does anyone know if this means it will start shipping in bulk and fulfill all of the documented back orders.

Somebody has to know something......

Adorama lists expected availability as 11/2024, for what that's worth (very little, probably).

I can't help but wonder what global parts shortage accounts for the delay in the rain covers. They're waterproof fabric with some vinyl, and they're in stock at B&H right now, anyway.

Canon must just be targeting November so they can hit a one year anniversary and celebrate the dismal planning that went into the production of this lens.

And it is strange, I thought the same thing on the rain cover as well as the eye cups and shoe cover.

These notices are likely Japanese market specific. Yodobashi has 200-800mm in stock for delivery by Friday (though they indicate they only have a few).

You have the reverse situation with the R5II, where at least the kit is in stock in the US at B&H, but the camera is completely out of stock in Japan.

Small retailers often get 1-2 of an item. For example, when the 10-20/4 was out of stock ‘everywhere’, some Internet searching followed by a few phone calls and I found one. The first two shops I called were really just taking preorders (claiming a website error for the In Stock listing), the third shop actually had one, and two days later I had it.

Did you set an alert on CPW? I have seen them listed in stock at one or another retailer a couple of times over the past few months.

Yeah - it kind of 'goes against expected' when a small retailer will get a couple but B&H is
still telling me "next week" (maybe).
If B&H has an outstanding order of 150 lenses and Canon ships them two, that's sort of a slap in the face. If a small local shop has an outstanding order of one lens and Canon ships them two, Canon is being generous and the small retailer has an extra lens to sell.

More practically, if Canon ships tiny batches of lenses to a large retailer then the shipping costs add up to something more than they would if shipping fewer, larger batches. If Canon ships a tiny batch of lens to a small retailer that normally only gets tiny batches of lenses anyway, the shipping costs are as expected.
