The announcement cycle of 2024 has come to an end, and as we've seen over the calendar year, Canon has addressed a couple of professional full-frame cameras, along with seven new lenses, though two of those lenses were VR things. Thankfully we did see 4 new L lenses, including the Hybrid trinity of L primes

The EOS R7 Mark II will be the first APS-C Canon camera to get a stacked sensor. There was no word on the resolution of the new sensor, but it would be cool to see it go slightly above the current 32.5mp to give it 8K capabilities. As we've mentioned before, and we're being told again. The EOS R7 Mark II will be going “up market”, so it may be a true EOS 7D Mark II successor.

Like seeing this possibility! As an R5 user, my only RF-S kit is an R50 for travel. But, that 15-125 constant aperture zoom (24-200 FF equivalent if my math is correct) would be a no-brainer to replace my 18-150. I'd prefer a relatively compact f4, but would still probably get one if it's f 2.8. This is all interesting though - I'm also considering adding the R6 Mark III next year.

Edit: ah, I see it refers to TWO zooms that cover that range. Would still be interested to see what's coming.

But what will the "professional" bird shooters complain about next if they do this? What will they blame for their bird photos being blurry by one pixel? Hopefully the camera body can withstand titanic depth submersion, meteoric impact, and many other things so that these birders can get their shots.

haha! There's definitely a subset of bird photographers with some strange takes.

If that hypothetic 15-125 at constant aperture comes into reality, it would be a great news for sure.

I migrated to mirror less having already a wide general zoom with the 18-135 USM so no use for the 18-150.
Sigma and Tamron are covering the wide angle and there is no news whatsoever in the probability for Tamron to bring their 17-70 for RF.
Going as it was, I almost wouldn't have bet for Canon to go and fill that gap.
Wait and see but definitely interested in what will come out

I read that as the "24-200" range but ddixon noted by reading a bit more carefully than me it may be a range covered by two zooms instead of a wide range zoom.
I'll hope and still be happy with something nice around the 15-80 range

I'm guessing

15-60/2.8 and 40-135/2.8
or
15-70/4 and 18-135/4

If something like that, I find the first 3 lenses interesting. But I would probably still miss a more direct replacement for the EF-S 15-85mm - though, I might learn to accept "downgrading" my preferred walk-around lens to a 15-70mm.

But overall, definitely the most interesting R-mount APS-C lens news/rumours I've heard "from" Canon :)

Was looking forward to the patented RF-S 15-60mm f/2.8 finally becoming a reality, but this “15-125” has me more intrigued. I’d guess it’d be an f/4 though if it was constant? Which wouldn’t be that much of an improvement over the kit for low light work sadly.

Edit: nevermind, as others noted seems the article could be referring to two zooms covering that range.

I hope the body design doesn\'t change much: I like the rear control wheel where it is. Plus, a D-pad allows for those buttons to be programmed. I\'d love to see a VC/Battery grip -- that needs to happen. I\'d also love to see the flash sync speed pushed from 1/320 sec to 1/500 sec! A faster sensor readout speed might make that possible.

APS-C: living the dream!

Nikon's D500, D850 and Z8 (and I assume Z9 too) are excellent birding cameras. I use them in conjunction with a few Canon DSLRs and mirrorless cameras.

OK, the DSLR ones maybe should go but R5 is excellent for landscape, museum and night photos and R7 with 100-400 for the occasional close bird photo (I can use the 100-500 but it becomes bigger and heavier) and all these with a Nikon DSLR with 500PF or Z8 with the 600PF.

So yes I would love a R7 II too but I am not in a hurry. My only complaint is that Z8 consumes the battery more than I can eat chocolate pastries. And I like chocolate a lot! :p

Just give it a faster Sensor, better DR AND a battery grip and off we go. I am running on two APS-C DSLRs now and I REALLY wanna upgrade, but not to the current R7. When the R7 II comes out then Canon can take all my money and I want two of them plus battery grip.

I don't think the R7II needs more resolution. In fact it makes more sense if the sensor was only 24mp but with slightly superior DR and Iso ability.
I think dual card slots and a R5 EVF would be VERY welcome...as well as the stacked sensor and current AF system.
I can see this camera being really popular with wild lifers.

Sweet baby Jesus, I very badly want a stacked sensor Canon APS-C camera that rivals the “on paper” performance of the Fujfifilm X-H2S. In the real world, that camera was a monumental ergonomic and functional disappointment for me, but the sensor was so impressive. The R7….well, I just didn’t like it. Haha
