    Canon Japan teases a new vlogging camera

    Canon Japan will be announcing a new vlogging product on May 11, 2023. We have no direct knowledge of this product or what it is.

    We have seen all sorts of cool patents for EF-M vlogging cameras and that sort of thing, but to have only Canon Japan teasing it, we think it will be more along time lines of recent “PowerShot” branded products.

    To us, it looks like a new PTZ camera such as a better version of the PowerShot Pick. PTZ cameras seem to be getting a pretty big push by manufacturers, so someone must be buying them. I wish we weren’t ignorant to the use case for such cameras, or maybe everyone is still trying to figure it out.

    We’ll see more about this teaser next week when Canon makes an official announcement.

    3. The R50 is kicking and screaming for a vlog lens as it's superior in every way to the M50....

      Canon: let's release yet another camera. haha

      I love that this is at least a peculiar form factor...what if it's a vloging focused larger sensor gimbal camera that can track faces and has good directional audio? hmmmmm The G7X II (not the III, which was apparently an inferior camera) is still selling in good numbers and probably the most popular "vlog" camera I see at the theme parks at least.

      Even Vixia Mini is a popular among vloging crowd and it has been discontinued for ages at this point.

      The issue with the G7X iii was autofocus speed which was fixed in firmware a long time ago.
    8. My wildest hope is that the C200 mark II somehow gets snuck into an announcement around that time... We're itching to replace the C200s at my job, but we really would prefer to maintain SDI outputs that the C200 uses, so the C70 isn't super practical. But if they wait much longer to announce it, we'll probably just have to use the budget on C70s.

      True but it was a typical Canon move to make a key feature that people loved in a camera worse in the next version.
    11. The G7X II doesn't have Dual Pixel Autofocus.
      The G7X II lets you save an image of whoever you want to track in the camera.
      I find it funny that Canon just recently added such a feature to the R3 in a firmware update.
