So, both of these lenses appeared in my inbox..... though "not soon".

80% success rate source.

The RF 24mm f/1.4L VCM and RF 50mm f/1.4L VCM are confirmed for 2024. Though, as always, things can change.

...... and no, none of these lenses need IS (The R8 should have had IBIS). Please........

I don't miss it at all, but my use case for the R8 is travel and that's mostly either tripod-mounted, brightly lit, or rarely indoors with an IS lens like the RF 24/1.8.
I don’t miss it for stills at all. I can bump the ISO if I need more shutterspeed and I almost never do long exposures.

For the remaining situations there is flash, lens IS or both.

We preach lens over camera if you have a tight budget.... frustrating when the R8 is missing something that should be a base feature of any full frame camera.

Yeah, I'm whining. :)

Not so sure, we lived without IBIS for many, many years. The R8 is pretty similar to the R6II (same sensor, mostly the same top line specs, except number of card slots, battery life and max shutter speed), but the R8 launched at a $1000 lower price. Something had to give, right?

Yeah, segmentation is a necessary evil.

The lack of IBIS makes the Canon R8 very light and affordable, making it ideal for a two-camera setup. I shoot with a flash 90% of the time, so I don't really care about the lack of IBIS, especially in the studio.

By the way, an RF 28mm f/1.4 lens would be a very welcome addition to the lineup. It could replace both the 24mm and 35mm lenses, allowing me to go out with only three lenses.

They had patents to fit ibis into EOS M, but going with a new IBIS design would only increase the costs of the R8.... dang economies of scale!

My favorite lower end Canon cameras are the R8 and R10 (I should have bought that instead of the R50!, which I do like). I may be more tired with "why no IS on fast wide prime lenses?!"

Even if the IBIS was dumbed down..... great camera otherwise... a steal actually when they're $1000 during some refurb Canon USA stock dump.
For IBIS it is necessary to have a new body, it takes more power, suffering even more from a small battery. Impossible to do at that price.
The A7CII costs way more and still suffers from other serious limitations like a decent EVF, quality LCD screen and other ergonomic quirks with a slow readout sensor.
Also, IBIS wobble is eliminated, so it can be used with wide-angle RF lenses using lens IS only for video.
Until Canon provides the option to turn off IBIS independently, it makes sense to have a few models without it.
