What could be more satisfying than seeing an EOS R100 torn apart? Am I right?

KolariVision has done teardowns on most cameras; since they have to take them apart for sensor modifications, it makes sense to shoot a video simultaneously. Everyone wins except the R100.

Surprisingly, the little thing is pretty complicated inside. There’s much sinking and shielding on top of the printed circuit board (PCB) that houses the DIGIC processor and other electronics.

Lifting up the shield shows off the main PCB with the DIGIC Processor

Lifting up the main PCB shows off the sensor assembly below it. The sensor assembly has a smaller PCB, and since the EOS R100 doesn’t have IBIS, it’s relatively straightforward to mount to the camera body.

The Ribbon Cable attaches the main PCB to the Sensor PCB

After removing the screws attaching the sensor assembly to the camera, the entire assembly can be lifted out of the camera. The larger bolt holes showing at the top of the sensor, I believe, usually contain thin spacers as well so that they can ensure that the sensor is exactly parallel to the camera RF mount.

Voila! The sensor in all its glory

As they mentioned, the teardown went pretty fast. There’s simply not much in these little cameras. Sadly, he didn’t slip with the screwdriver and put it out of its misery. The price of knowing what you are doing, I suppose.

You can watch the entire teardown video below.

KolariVision is a company I have used a lot over the years. They have converted apart a 20D, 7D, EOS-M, M3, M6 Mark II, and even another M6 Mark II and converted them to full spectrum and also some to 720nm. I’m sure I’m forgetting some cameras there, but they have converted a lot for me.

:ROFLMAO: Richard, you made my day :ROFLMAO:
    Thanks a lot for that.

Richard is upset that they put it back together.
Same to you Craig, thanks :ROFLMAO:
  2. Canon can release R1000 without screen.
That's actually a great idea, a perfect webcam and/or act as smartphone peripherals. Just using remote app on ios/android..... And from the trade off you can put 3 LP-E17 batteries to keep its endurance.

Priced it at $250 body only, $500 for coming with triple lens(18-45, 10-18, RF50), $399 for 18-45&10-18 with the Remote grip.
  3. Despite majority on CR isn't R100 target audience and we hate this camera. This piece of platic is the cheapest mirrorless that anyone can afford first hand. And with the 3rd party RF-S soon™, R100 is acceptable for what it priced, it has a normal usable LCD.... Unlike ZV-E10

Would have been a decent camera with the addition of a touchscreen...you know that thing even $50 smartphones have. Canon went a little too far here.

To be fair, This is kind of camera people use inside photo boxes, guest shots and ID card

I saw R100 inside fuji shop last time when i go for photobox with my wife
  6. This reminds me that it\'s been years since I\'ve seen a teardown from Roger Cicala over at Lens Rentals. Anyone know what happened to him?

I think he's retired now. he did go over to dpreview for a while.
  7. I don't like the R100 myself, but I think the R100 gets misjudged a lot. There is a rising/ growing photography market in Africa e.g. that wants to move away from SP. Since income is nothing compared to North America/ Europe and wealthy parts of Asia, 50 $ more or less is a huge deal. My in-law is originally from Nairobi, Kenia and I visited the country in 2022. I only saw natives with a rebel kind like camera. So I´m guessing Canon went for that kind of market. In Germany, I´ve only seen retirees (probably those who can handle the touch screen of SP) with a R100...

That is all fine but what I hate is that Canon skipped the touchscreen to save $10 on a $500 camera and made it have worse handling than a 10+ year old cheap Rebel. They already added an old sensor, old CPU, fixed screen, cropped video, no video AF, removed the ISO button and the digital hotshoe. Was that not enough for product segmentation?
  9. If ever I am elected president, I'll make sure all the despicable EOS R 100 haters get a life sentence!
    EOS R 100: My love! :love::love::love:
you should give money to R100 buyers upgrade to R50 :(
  10. R100 with RF 1200mm f8L

    B E S T - C O M B O for beginners. ;)
Nope, that would be the R100 with RF 85mm f/1.2 DS. Except Canon made that impossible. Just like those beginners could not use an RF extender with that 1200mm lens on the R100.
