You all know by now that Cannon will be announcing three new lenses on October 30th. That will be happening at midnight Eastern Time. Just to recap in case you’re new here we know for sure the following three lenses are coming.

  • Canon RF 24mm f/1.4L VCM
  • Canon RF 50mm f/1.4L VCM
  • Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Z – Black
  • Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Z – White
  • Canon RF-S 7.8mm f/4 STM Dual Lens VR

We can now confirm that two more lenses are coming on the same day.

We believe one of them will be the RF-S 7.8mm f/4 STM Dual Lens for recording spatial video for the Apple Vision Pro using the EOS R7.

The exact specifications of the fifth lens is up in the air at the moment, although I’m pretty confident that it is going to be a big white zoom. I have been told so many subtly different things about the lens, I’m thinking it’s some kind of variation of the long rumored RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM. I don’t want to report the conflicting information at this time.

There was some confusion on my part, as there is another lens coming in possibly late November, So there are five SKU’s tonight, but not 5 models.

We dont have long to wait. More to come very soon…..

  1. My credit card is all ready...for the new M4 MacBook Pros that are launching this week.

Unless that 5th lens is something interesting to me (a 200-500 would not be, unless it has a built-in 1.4x TC and is substantially smaller than my 600/4 II...and I don't see that as very likely even if a big white zoom is the 5th wheel lens announced).

Canon, where are my TS-R lenses?
  2. Portrait photographers will be happy once again. Assuming this will extend to wedding photographers as well. Also videographers will love the 70-200 2.8. Another pass for me. Still hoping for unique and useful lenses for my wildlife and landscape, astro work. Hoping they open up third party adapted lenses if they are going to continue to leave these lenses off the list.

I mean 24mm 1.4 is not the worst for landscape/astro, no?
  4. Could this 5th lens be 600 or 500mm F4 with 1.4 TC? I am more interested in 70-200 2.8 mark 2 because the price of mark 1 will go down and I will buy one.

It is not a prime. I think I'll have it nailed in the next 3 to 4 hours. This stuff is oddly fun for me. I'm not sure if that's a good thing.
  5. Received the offer for the new job today, the signing bonus should be enough to change “50vcm or 2025 macro lens” to “50vcm and 2025 macro lens”! Provided the specs for the 50vcm are interesting enough, otherwise I’ll keep using to 50stm.

Hey, congrats on the new job!

I've gone back and forth on the 200-500mm L. When you reported the DO patents, I started thinking that I might continue with my 100-500mm until the DO lens release even if it's 2-3yrs away. Patience is a virtue (and my Nikon long lenses can tide me over until then :)).

wish I could have the RF 10-20, 24-100 2.8Z, 70-200 2.8Z , 200-800.... did I mention that I need to rob the money truck for it?
  9. I would love to see a RF 150-600mm F4-F8. Like the RF 200-800mm but more compact, around the same size as the 100-500.
Seems like that’s be too close to the 100-500 to bother?

Yeah, I’m really in need of an update to my M1 MBP that I foolishly optioned with base RAM and 1TB of storage four years ago. Not looking forward to that, but the 0% financing of the Apple Card is very helpful.
  11. For me, the new 50mm f1.4 is the most interesting. It could easily be my first RF lens.
I've never been a big user of the EF 24mm f1.4 II L, I far prefere the 35/f1.4 option. I had one for many years, but hardly used it.
I use the 24mm focal length on my 24-70/2.8 II L a lot, I seem to like it's results better @f2.8 than I ever did @f1.4.
  12. Any word on the newly designed extenders? My travel plans for next include me using the RF 100-500mm and I’ll probably need one (or two) extenders. Since I don’t like the current extenders on the 100-500mm that would be a nice surprise for me. I don’t believe it is coming now but I am hoping for Q1/2 in 2025
  13. Woooow, five new lenses all at once is absolutely great! Good thing Friday is a holiday so I have all the time in the world to be reading up on them :) unless there is a pleasant surprise (price wise or lens wise) I don’t think I‘m in market for one of the new lenses, but I still enjoy new gear announcements :)
