Canon has announced firmware that will be coming to select Cinema EOS cameras in December of this year. There are compatibility updates for the new RF 24mm f/1.4L VCM, RF 50mm f/1.4L VCM and RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Z as well as the RF 17-120 CINE-SERVO.

The latest Cinema EOS cameras such as the Cinema EOS C400 and Cinema EOS C80 will get Adobe Frame.io could support that will work with both wireless and wired connections.

Canon has also added some new features to their older Cinema EOS R5 C and Cinema EOS C70.

Canon continues to listen to customers and implement new features. There’s obviously some requests that they can’t implement for technical/hardware reasons. It’s nice to see though.

  1. This is great and something to look forward to. Hoping for what's rumored. R5 C.

    Does anyone know what:

Option for camera output to mirror the camera’s LCD display
    and
    New subject tracking trigger (are/is)

Could this be some type of simultaneous display? The viewfinder and LCD show the same thing, so that's what gets output now. You already get OSD, grid lines, etc. What's is the proposed enhancement?

Subject tracking trigger? What is this... A programmable button? Additional tracking detection?

Curious to hear what others think.

My guess is that this could be a "subject to detect" autofocus feature to switch between person/animal. The C400 has this, but the R5c (cinema os) does not. Might be totally wrong.
As for the LCD mirror thing - hmm. That's a weird one. Maybe for the R5c - the feature allows EVF/LCD to mirror the same magnify button map settings? I do find it incredibly obnoxious that I have to map 3 different buttons to magnify on each screen (LCD, EVF, and HDMI out) if we just had one universal "magnify" button, that would be grand. Shot in the dark there.
  3. Hi Steve_FR,
Thanks for the reply. I've been very happy with the addition of head and face detection. You can program a button now to switch between subjects, but if they have an easier way to do it that would be great too.

Magnification appears on the LCD now. I've not tried to output via HDMI but I thought it would appear on the OSD. I can wait till next month to find out
  4. More Info. Canon Europe is reporting that the December FW update for the R5 C will allow 8k 60p using a E6P battery on its own. (previously, this was limited to 8k 30p). No more external power requirement. We don't know what the runtime will be yet, but it's an enhancement none the less.

The runtime won't be longer, that's for sure!
  6. I've never bothered to check the recording time for 8k 30p on internal battery. It won't be much more that whatever that is for sure. I don't record in 8k so non issue for me. I have USB-C PD and am happy to use it like that.
  7. The runtime is already longer with the E6P battery.
That would mean the E6P is more efficient than its predecessor, since the listed capacity is the same. That would be very good news!

  9. Yes, it was posted on the 19th. I upgraded the following day. Appears to be fine/stable. The R5 C has proven itself over and over. Thus far, I am not compelled to upgrade but, I'm hoping there will be a mkII someday.
