There have been a few different ship dates posted on various retailer web sites, but everyone seems to have confirmed that cameras will be allowed to start shipping on August 20, 2024. As always, retailers will likely ship a day or two before for online orders and some will let them out early if you're

A couple days ago, I got an email from B&H that I've never received on any previous pre-order I've made with them. It was a thank you as well as a "confirmed ship date" of August 20th. I thought that was interesting, since I've never gotten anything like that about any previous camera or lens.

I too received the same email but, having found the "confirmed ship date" part of the sentence a bit ambiguous, I contacted B&H who confirmed my suspicion: what that means is that orders will indeed begin shipping on that date, but does NOT mean my specific order will ship on that date. At this point B&H was unable to provide a shipping date for my specific order.

The only email I got from B&H after my R1 order confirmation was an email telling me I could save $393.69 by using their Payboo credit card, instead. They neglected to mention in the email that the card has a 36% APR. Not that I carry a balance on any credit card, but still...

That is a mind-boggling high interest rate, but if you don't carry a balance why should it matter to you? My biggest purchase on the Payboo card was for $12k--not 100% of the purchase price, but 100% of my credit limit :cautious:--and you better believe that I made sure to pay off the balance well before the due date. Unfortunately, I will likely use the card again but for much smaller amounts. :)

Fair point, it doesn't. The rewards from my current one are better than what Payboo would get me, and my limit is relatively astronomical (I did learn a few years ago that car dealers cap the amount you can put on a credit card at $5K because they pay the surcharge, else I'd have bought my current car that way instead of getting a cashier's check, the limit is high enough for that).

But the real reason is that I don't need/want another credit card.

Fair point. I too would buy my cars using credit cards if feasible. However, I think the dealer for the last car I purchased wanted to saddle me with the surcharge (the nerve of them!). I politely declined. :(

For new cameras, the 2 week second batch availability is unusual, no? I do hope that it is true but I won't get excited.
Unusual for recent times, though Canon stated recently that they have taken steps to better align inventory to meed demand. There was also an earlier rumor that they delayed the launch of the R5II in the first place to have adequate stock levels, so it could be that rather than the second production run being uncharacteristically early, shipping of the first run was pushed back to be closer to the second run.

Im hoping as fall sports would be a great time to test it out.

One can just use a Florida shipping service to avoid sales tax and forward it on. Sure you have to wait an extra day or two, but no Payboo card is needed.
