MAP Camera is a huge retailer in Japan for all things camera-related, and it released its camera rankings for April. Sony mopped up with 4 out of 10 spots and 3 out of the top 5 spots over all. Canon only had 1 camera in the top 10, the Canon RF R6 Mark II. MAP Camera usually sells more high-end cameras versus the mass retailers such as Amazon that sell more of the lower-cost cameras.

This list will go through many changes as Canon releases its new cameras for this year, but right now Canon is certainly lagging a bit behind the other companies, at least according to Mapcamera. The rankings are as follows for April 2024.

  1. FUJIFILM X-T5
  2. Nikon Z f
  3. SONY α7C II
  4. SONY VLOGCAM ZV-E10
  5. SONY α7IV
  6. Canon EOS R6 Mark II
  7. SONY α7RV
  8. DJI Osmo Pocket3
  9. OM SYSTEM OM-1 Mark II
  10. Nikon Z8

Is Canon Doomed? Of course not, these lists usually have a recency bias and Canon has not announced any high-end cameras since February 2023 when the Canon R8 was announced.

  1. It's been said that it's unlikely to happen, but the top three spots are things that some people here posted about wanting a Canon version. Who knows, maybe one of Canon's upcoming bodies will be one or more of these: retro, compact, or high-density aps-c model?

    Wow
CIPA doesn't have April data out yet, but in March 19% of ILCs produced were DSLRs. But only 2% of DSLRs shipped worldwide in March went to Japan.

If Canon doesn't stop making it, it would sell more the next few years. Such as PowerShot SX740 HS, the selling is no. 1 in Japan.
