I wouldn't care about the stacked sensor. If I need one, I´d grab the R6mkiiiI could see them leaving the R8 with a non-stacked sensor to create a bit more separation from the R6 line.I wonder if the R8 series will follow the R6 series or go its own way. It sells in great volumes is a really important camera to attract people to your system. Nikons Z6 recently got an update, the Sony A7mkV will be released in the near future. So, if you look at the competition, it does make sense. If you look solely at the camera, it definitely does not need a refresh. R7 and the APS-C line up could need a refresh or a makeover much more than the R6 imho
But it kind sounds like it is getting extremely close to the R3. I guess, if the R6mkiii goes even further upmarket then Canon will have to reinvent the R3 series because it kind gets caught between the R1 and R6 and does really a place on its own in the line-up.
Canon need to add features to the R6 line because of the competition - Nikon Z6 3 is a more capable camera and Sony A75 will probably come early next year as well.
Why, though? It's been made clear on forums like this that for over a decade, Sony and Nikon 'equivalent' cameras have beaten their Canon counterparts on a feature-for-feature basis. What effect has that had on Canon's market dominance? That was a rhetorical question, the answer is...no effect, at all.

For me, that was the single most important from the EOS R to the R5. Never want to go back. And that´s the only reason holding me back from getting the R8 as my lightweight option for hiking and such
According to you, how many Nikon Z6 were sold compared to Canon's R6/R6 II?
Well, I really like my R6ii. It's by far the most rounded and capable camera body I've ever owned. 24mp, high DR, great iso, fast 12fps 1st curtain and 40fps electronic....what's not to love? It's about the photos not the specifications. I've been really impressed with the R6ii, I've taken so many portfolio worthy photos this year. Some of my best work for sure.
I like the R8 a lot, however the battery life does suck, navigating the Af options with so few buttons can be a challenge and the EVF is quite small and low rez. The difference between the max 1st curtain shutter and Electronic shutter is huge, 6fp -> 40fps. I don't think that is going to happen. Canon will most likely keep the R8 as a lighter/cheaper R6. That means the same sensor (stacked if R6 gets it), with a similar body to the current R8. It's more likely they will tweak the R8 body and add IBIS before they give it a joystick. Canon's strategy is if you need a joystick and more controls, get an R6. Want more compact and less controls (and cheaper), get an R8. This is a similar strategy as Sony and their A7/A7C bodies.Ohhhh, give the R8mkii a joystick please
