Perhaps not something that should surprise anyone (thanks for the heads up P-Visie), Canon has issued a notice that everything once again is in short supply and will take some time to catch up to preorders.

Now some of this could be people preordering from multiple different suppliers seeing which one gets processed first (I would never do such a thing.. cough), or it could be that contrary to all the YouTube, bloggers, X pundits, and keyboard warriors – Canon may have created a couple of products that people want to purchase.

It couldn’t be that though. We all know: Canon is Doomed™

The Canon RF200-800mm F6.4-9 IS USM is still back-ordered. Remember I told you to get on that preorder list back then?

The Speedlight EL-1 is still back ordered but realistically I think Canon just wants to kill off that experiment. I think the one person they have in the factory responsible for assembling the speedlight, falls over in a state of shock when someone orders one.

The “one by one” I think is a literal machine translation, but it’s humorous. If someone can translate the Japanese accurately for me I’d appreciate it. (Thanks for the correct translation!)

From Canon (Machine Translated)

Thank you for your continued patronage of Canon products.

Currently, we are experiencing delays in delivery for the following products due to orders exceeding our expectations and also due to the impact of global parts supply. We sincerely apologize to our customers and business partners for the inconvenience caused. We would like to apologize again for
keeping our eagerly awaiting customers waiting for such a long time. We will continue to take measures to ensure a stable product supply so that we can deliver the products as soon as possible. We appreciate your understanding.

EOS R1The shipment is scheduled accordingly, however, it may take extra lead time than normal.
EOS R5 Mark IIThe shipment is scheduled accordingly, however it may take extra lead time than normal.
Cooling fan CF-R20EPThe shipment is scheduled accordingly, however, it may take extra lead time than normal.
RF200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USMThe shipment is scheduled accordingly, however, it may take extra lead time than normal.
Speedlight EL-1The shipment is scheduled accordingly, but it is expected that it will take a considerable amount of time for delivery.
If you place a new order, it may take up to six months for delivery.

If you are sitting on the fence, you should get on the preorder lists. While we are seeing this announcement out of Canon it doesn’t mean that Canon USA and other regions have used up their entire allotment. So take my advice this time. It could be a long wait for an R1 and R5 Mark II. They feature the most revolutionary AF since Eye AF came out. There’s nothing like it in the market today.

Here are the preorder links because I’m both helpful and shameless.

  1. This already feels like a tactic from every camera company now days. I think they are making it to be in short supply on purpose so people get in the habit of preordering instead of waiting to be in stock

it certainly does feel that way.

It could be, but that RF 200-800 is apparently not shipping again until August, that's a bit excessive for marketing based demand.
  4. Surely the random YouTuber, who has no intention of buying a pro body nor has the knowledge about such bodies, knows that Canon is doomed

However, the numbers tell a different story. I mean, would I have liked a bigger resolution in the R1? Hell yes, but I wouldn't have bought it anyway for 7.5k€. Other than the resolution, are there any bad things about it? And don't talk about a global shutter with all of its downsides.

Most pro sports photographers seems pretty happy with the upgrades from the R3, but Johnny Appleseed who shoots his family vacation once a year knows better for sure.

Canon stated how many R1 cameras they were going to make a month.
That was before they started taking preorders.
They will sell everyone they make just like they did with the R3 that everyone also mocked for having 24 MP.
They never stated publicly how many R5 II cameras they are going to make.
I suppose that output may be more adjustable.
  6. :ROFLMAO: That didn't take long :ROFLMAO:

Seems they sell like hot cakes. Looks like a good revenue for Canon.

I feel with all now on the waiting list  Hope you'll get your tools soon.
  7. Well, long delays in product delivery. This will be the new normal for almost everything that requires high technology, precision manufacturing, and assembly. The developed world is running out of people. There are not enough Japanese for the Japanese to survive. The birth rate is 0.8 per woman. The replacement rate is 2.1 per woman. China also has a population decline. What we\'re seeing now is the lack of babies 20 and 40 years ago and the lack of a workforce and consumption population that has resulted from these. There are a few primary reasons for this urbanization. Too many people in too small a space to have an opportunity to make a baby. And, when a family was on a farm, kids were an asset, free labor. In a city, living in small apartments, they are very very expensive in both time and money. Just look at the demographics. When you come across a conventional family. A physical man and physical woman who love and support each other and have children that both of them are committed to supporting, nurturing, protecting, AND allowing them to grow and interact with the real world there is hope.
  8. Here's the skippy that we do know. About 75% of all the ones that make negative remarks on Youtube are precisely those that put in multiple preorders so that they will claim they purchase one, tested it, and then returned it. Of course the later is a lie. They didn't return anything. Like children do when attempting to persuade others not to do what they indeed plan on doing. Was exactly what happened when the R5 was released. 8 months after it was released low and behold that flawed camera was seen being used by most all that claimed prefusely it was so unuseable. I never take anything they say about a device they've had for one day with any meaningfull regard.
  9. Glad I got my R1 preorder in within a minute of them opening.
It doesn't matter. Vendors have learned. Many are allocating those units on a daily basis. Many are not selling every device in one day. Preventing one person from obtaining all the stock by using associates. Local vendors are holding units for regular customers. So it really doesn't matter.

And they did not say that how many will be shipped to each location and on which day of the month.
  11. All the preoders will not go to those that ordered in the first five minutes. It simply just isn't gonna go that way. In reality some will go to day 1 sales, day 2 sales, etc. Not actually a theoretically first come first serve basis. Factually people who ordered later have been receiving their devices long before those that ordered in the first 10 seconds or first half hour.
  12. I don't think the wait lists for the R52 will be very long. On paper the camera looks overpriced in this market unless Canon has been able to do something really special with AF performance that sets it apart from Nikon and Sony.

What sets it apart from Nikon and Sony is that there are a huge number of 5-series DSLR owners for which the upgrade timing is now right.
  14. I was desperate to get the R5 as it was such a great leap forward for Canon. It's indeed so good, that I won't get frustrated waiting for the R5 II, which I did preorder as soon as online ordering opened at my favourite retailers who do say: "
    Pre-Order
This product has recently been announced. Order today and we will place you on a waiting list fulfilled first come, first served when stock is received. No payment will be taken until the item is in stock and ready to be despatched. "

    So retailers are lying? Doubtful.

But if what you mean is that it will vary by retailer, yes. I could probably find a camera shop from whom no one has preordered an R1 and place that preorder today, and get my camera from the first allotment (they may only get the one) just as I'm confident I will get mine from B&H's first allotment.
