The long version
We are once again launching memberships at Canon Rumors to give you the option to support the site and at the same time not see display ads.
Ads are a necessary revenue stream. Hosting and storage aren’t getting any cheaper and we actually want to build the photo posting on the site which takes a lot of space. We love scrolling those threads and seeing the improvement in a lot of people’s work over the months and years.
We aren’t going to spam you with this option repeatedly, but we wanted to let you know and perhaps grow the conversations about all things Canon as well as the rest of the industry. We still love the gear and the creative process and want to expand on that sort of stuff.
If there you have any questions, please ask using our contact form.
We previosly had lifetime memberships, but we’re not offering those for now. If there is demand, we will re-acess things.
This surprisngly been a lot of work to implement once again, but we know you’ll find value whichever way you decide to visit Canon Rumors.
Thanks for being part of our little community, we truly appreciate it.
Memberships will be a yearly subscription
- Price: $20/yr USD
- You will NOT see any ads on the homepage or forum.
- We will NOT be doing auto-renewals. We find them annoying as we tend to forget about things as the year passes.
- You will NOT be automatically added to any sort of newsletter or other email communications. You can sign up for that separately on the homepage.
- A forum Account is required to subscribe and block ads from displaying.
- To avoid the ads, you must be logged into the forum. Just check the box “Stay Logged In” and you’ll be good each time you come to Canon Rumors. (Obviously clearing cache, history, logins or incognito windows with your browser may require logging in again)
We previously had a problem with display ads still displaying on the forum for members, but those issues have been resolved and won’t be a problem going forward. We really want to make it up to you.
Membership Tiers Available
Tier One – Guests
- The most ads will be shown to this category of lurker on the forum and web site. You can sign-up for an account on the forum here to move to Tier Two for no cost and only see display ads.
- We have a good group of regulars and the moderators have worked hard to make it a positive place to discuss all things Canon. Healthy debate is good, and opinions are respected, but we work hard to keep the “trolls” away. It’s never going to be perfect, but we do respect any reports about content concerns that we receive.
Tier Two – Registered Members
- If you have a registered forum account you will only see display ads, but no video ads or footer popups. (GDPR popups are legally required in certain parts of the world)
- We’ll tweak things if we need to based on any sort of feedback about ads.
Tier Three – Premium Members ($20 USD per year)
Premium members will never see display ads on the site or on the forum.
- If you’re already a forum member, you can upgrade here.
- If you are not a forum member, you can simply sign-up for an account here This is required to block any ads from displaying on the web site.
- Once your forum account is approved and active, you can upgrade here.
- Tier 3 Members will also receive discount offers exclusive to Canon Rumors members.
Tier Four – Lifetime Members
We are currently not offering lifetime memberships anymore, if there is demand we may re-introduce them. They were $100 USD when they were offered just so you have an idea of what the cost was.
All current lifetime subscriptions are still valid and will be forever.
Lifetime members will be receiving exclusive discounts on all sorts of gear and software starting during the Black Friday season next month. There will be real discounts on things you’ll actually want.
Based on the feedback from those discounts, we will adjust things going forward.
We do owe you!
Thanks for hanging out at Canon Rumors.
Cheers

I have (or had?) a lifetime membership. You're not offering new lifetime memberships, but to us who already have, they are still valid?
My profile says I'm "Canon Rumors Premium".
I'm using an ad-blocker, so I might not see very much difference on the site in practice :sneaky::whistle:
Yours is still active, with or without an adblocker, you won't see any.
Yes, I wanted to let the lifetime members know they're going to get some added bonuses because we totally messed up forum ads displaying and not getting that issue fixed fast enough. The joy of developers haha
I updated the post. Thanks for pointing that out.
But I know: humans are humans, and software is software. Mistakes happen.
But as long as you're trying to fix them as fast as possible, I give you a (y)
Still disappointed that we didn't get a goody a year as promised, but I am curious about the future offers....
It was sold a few years ago, After a year or so of annoyances (I had the dumb consultant title), I bought half of it back earlier this year, brought Richard on board and stopped taking it so seriously. I don't have to deal with any of the behind the scenes stuff that I didn't really enjoy. A clean up of forum members, and some changes in what we do seems to have significantly reduced the trolls and all of the over the top evil stuff.
Yes I know. ;) I didn't have the proverbial power.
The login has to go through the forum because Wordpress (Site) and Xenforo (Forum) are two separate platforms and use two different user databases. We used to share them across both platforms, but that was a security risk that was difficult to maintain. Now only Xenforo stores user account data. If you're logged into the forum, there will be no ads on the main site. Check the box "keep logged in" and all should be well.
If you're using some kind of browser setup that is on the strict side of privacy settings, there may be issues staying logged in that we cannot resolve. You may have to "whitelist" the site or take other measures. I know Safari has some pretty strict set ups. I don't use a Mac, so I don't really know how all of that works.
How do I check?
