RF 85mm f/1.2L USM II?

Canon released its RF 85mm f/1.2L lens in May 2019. It's been over three years since.

Will they make a 85mm f/1.2L II soon? Should I just buy one now instead of waiting for mark II?
  • EF 85mm f/1.2L USM - September 1989
  • EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM - March 2006
  • EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM - August 2017

RED Video Cameras with RF Mount

Interesting read with interesting (and obvious) deductions about Canon's logic for locking down the RF mount (as far as lenses are concerned).

I presume RED is the only company (other than Canon) building cameras with the RF mount...

Dustin Abbott reviews the RF 24mm f/1.8

His review is here: https://dustinabbott.net/2022/11/canon-rf-24mm-f1-8-macro-is-stm-gallery/
Mirrors my experience with this lens.
It would be helpful if he would include aperture data with his images. He notes poor coma performance as demonstrated in one of his photos. This is presumably wide open as I found it reduces significantly at f/2.8 and is largely gone at f/4.
He notes:
Stopping down to F2 produces slightly higher contrast across the frame, with a bigger jump happening at F2.8. There’s quite a noticeable difference in corner performance from F2 to F2.8. There’s very slight additional gains at F4 and F5.6, and very slight regressions at each stop after that. At these landscape apertures details look crisp across the frame.
This reflects my experience.
I'd like to see a comparison with the EF 24mm f/1.4L (both versions).

Beware of Canon Europe web store - it might take your money without registering the order

Today I bought a lens on Canon Italy web store - which it looks to be just part of Canon Europe store. Or better, I tried. All went well until I sent the payment data and confirmed the payment via credit card... then I got a blank page, and the order was not registered - nor I got any email about it. No error. Just a link delivering a blank page. But the payment went through since I got a message from my bank that the payment was approved and the sum appears as booked in my bank account.

A call to the Canon support line didn't help much - the person that answered was kind and performed all the checks he could - but it didn't find the order nor could release the sum, since there was no order. They should get back to me, but I didn't hear anyone yet. Now I have no order, and a blocked sum - and I'm hesitant to place another until I know if and when my money will be released.

I wonder how it is possible in 2022 to code an application with such bugs - two phase commits have been standard practices for years. Amazon may not be a nice company, but I never saw issues of such magnitude.

Beware, if you buy form Canon Europe web store - there could be a nasty bug lurking behind.

Canon RF 24-240- I expected it to be pretty bad, but....

IT WASN'T. Not even close...
I bought every other lens first, available thinking that, "My R5 walk around lens is my iPhone Pro Max".
So, I bought a 24-240 last, just so I could use the same editing software, and half out of curiosity. And I was pleasantly surprised. And I mean "almost shocked", (especially when considering the price and weight differentials).

I compared it to my 14-35 at 24 mm with shots on my secretary's little snowman in the center of the frame and at far left edge.
I also compared it to my 100-500 at 240mm with the snowman in the center and the left edge.

And, really, if you let the camera do it's thing, the images are pretty hard to tell apart.

I bought two R5 bodies, one for a 24-105 f/4 and the other for a 70-200 f/2.8 or 100-500 f/4.5-7.1 so I wouldn't have to change lenses all the time and risk dropping one, and slowing everything down and taking the fun out of it. Now, except for the most hard core pixel peeping sessions, I'm wondering if that was worth it.

Note: all images cropped very hard, just down to the snow man alone. Auto exposure. Hand held. Crappy office overhead florescent tube lighting.

Photoshop/CameraRaw weirdness with R3.

OK so shooting with my Canon R3 at a football game, I took some photos as RAW+JPG. I normally just shoot sports as JPG, but I had blinding direct sun and wanted extra latitude. The results are bizarre. They are most appearant with my fisheye lens so I will use that for an example.

Viewing one photo in Adobe Bridge. (Same Photo, just one is the recorded RAW, and one is the recorded JPG.Screenshot 2022-11-14 at 6.43.18 PM.png

Then opening each file in Camera Raw:

Then opening in Photoshop wit NO ADJUSTMENTS, the RAW file is 2 stops brighter.

Canon officially discontinues the MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro

One of Canon’s most unique lenses, the MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro has been officially discontinued. These little niche lenses helped set Canon’s lens lineup apart from other manufacturers. We’re hoping that we see lenses like this in the future for the RF mount. Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro The only native macro for
